James Leath is a mental performance coach, author, and the founder of Unleash the Athlete. With a master’s degree in performance psychology, James has worked with the Dallas Cowboys and the Chicago Bulls and was the head of Leadership Development at IMG Academy. He is a mental performance coach for EXOS and lives in Phoenix, AZ.

Grande:

James Leath is a mental performance coach and the founder of Unleash the Athlete. With a bachelor’s in communication, a master’s in Performance Psychology, and almost 20 years of coaching experience, James teaches leadership, character, and mental residency to elite performers in sport, theater, and business through keynotes, workshops, and online courses.

James has worked for companies like IMG Academy, USA Swimming, Positive Coaching Alliance, American Heart Association, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Chicago Bulls. He is a mental performance coach for EXOS and lives in Phoenix, AZ.

James Leath has supported high-performing teams and individuals across the U.S. for over twenty years in honing their leadership skills and mental resilience. Coach Leath’s work has influenced the Chicago Bulls, Dallas Cowboys, and Green Bay Packers, as well as corporate employees and innovators at leading companies such as IMG Academy, MINDBODY INC, and Under Armour. 

As a keynote speaker and workshop facilitator in leadership development and human performance, Coach Leath leverages interactive activities, team-building exercises, and research-based lectures to help deliver pivotal experiences that athletes can use as an anchor as they continue their journey onward to a personal best. 

James is a mental performance coach with EXOS, leading business professionals through an immersive six-week coaching experience that shares the knowledge and tools necessary to expand the value they create—at work and in life. As the head of leadership development at IMG Academy, James led a team of coaches in developing, documenting, and delivering instructional curriculum for youth, secondary, post-secondary student-athletes, and professional athletes. His focus areas included personal and group leadership, the trickle-down effect of being a positive influence, and how to work effectively with teammates, classmates, and coaches. 

In 2018, James left IMG Academy to tend to his ill father in Dallas, where he continued to support high school, college, and professional athletes via workshops and overnight retreats before joining Exos in May 2022. When James isn’t coaching, you can find him exploring trails with his dog Tux, enjoying concerts, and playing in various adult sports leagues. 

James holds a master’s degree in performance psychology from National University in San Diego and a bachelor’s in communication from Fresno State, where he also spent three years as the beloved Bulldog mascot, Time Out. Additionally, he is a member of the Applied Science of Sport Psychology. James recently completed his 200-hour yoga certification through Yoga Alliance and holds numerous fitness certifications. He is a mental performance coach for EXOS and lives in Phoenix, AZ.
